Donated Equipment Arrives!
Stethoscopes,
digital thermometers, and blood pressure cuffs were distributed
at Berea, Maluti and Motebang Hospitals in Lesotho courtesy of SHARED's
generous supporters. Read more about the hospitals and the
equipment donation from the Nurse Educator for the three hospitals,
Mamakara Elizabeth Motanyane, dated October 13, 2009:
Dear Ms.
Ziemba,
We would like to sincerely thank you and thank SHARED for your very
generous donation of medical equipment for nurses in Motebang, Maluti
and Berea Hospitals in Lesotho. At each of these hospitals, we held
a meeting last week with all nursing staff and key administrators
to distribute the equipment. The Nurse Matron at each of these hospitals
gave a speech prior to the equipment distribution and thanked SHARED
for their generous donation. The nurses’ promised to keep
the equipment secure and labeled each piece of equipment received
with their name and the name of their medical ward. It was a celebration
enjoyed by all in attendance!
Over the past 18 months Lesotho-Boston Health Alliance (LeBoHA)
has been working closely with the nurses at each one of these hospitals
and teaching competency based classes on a weekly basis. Topics
for competency based classes have included sessions on vital signs
and physical assessment. Many times we have visited the medical
wards and vital sign documentation has been a challenge due to lack
of equipment. The nurses at the meeting felt confident that with
this equipment on hand all vital signs will be documented on all
patients- this would be an incredible accomplishment!
Once again, we would like to extend a sincere thank you for thinking
of the nurses in Lesotho. We feel confident that competency classes
coupled with appropriate medical equipment is key to providing quality
patient care.
Warmest Regards,
Mamakara E. Motanyane
